Columbus, OH – Jefferson Elementary second-grade teacher Ms. Kelly Harper has taken an unexpected leave of absence, reportedly due to the increasingly invasive actions of Amanda Gleeson, an overly enthusiastic room parent.
Sources say Gleeson, the mother of Harper’s student Sophia, didn’t limit her role to classroom snack duty and field trip coordination. Instead, she became a constant presence in Harper’s life—both in and out of school. “It started with frequent ‘check-ins’ at the classroom,” said one colleague. “But soon Amanda was showing up at Ms. Harper’s yoga class, her grocery store, even her dentist’s office—insisting they could ‘brainstorm enrichment activities’ while Harper got her teeth cleaned.”
At school, Gleeson took control over almost every aspect of the classroom, from dictating seating arrangements to sending out progress reports—signed by her. Harper, overwhelmed, tried setting boundaries, but Gleeson allegedly countered by slipping self-help books like How to Lead When Others Won’t into Harper’s mailbox.
“The final straw was when Amanda installed a nanny cam in the classroom ‘for security purposes,’ then gave Ms. Harper live feedback via text during her lessons,” said one parent. “She even organized a ‘pop-up review’ session at Ms. Harper’s favorite coffee shop, where she ‘evaluated’ her teaching performance.”
Harper reportedly left the school last Thursday, telling the principal she “needed a break from Amanda Gleeson” and immediately checked into a yoga retreat.
Gleeson has not commented publicly but is rumored to be planning Harper’s return with a detailed “re-integration strategy” that may involve a PowerPoint presentation and personalized tote bags for all staff.
As for Ms. Harper, sources say she’s enjoying the quiet—at least for now.
